- Description: Check blank or stale Rainmeter weather: identify the provider, location format, API requirements and WebParser errors without exposing credentials.

Check whether the weather widget is missing entirely or is visible with blank, wrong or stale data. A missing skin is a loading problem; a visible weather panel usually needs its location, data source or parser checked. Reinstalling Rainmeter does not repair a changed weather service.

**Evidence and limits:** this guide is based on Rainmeter documentation, provider documentation and maintainer instructions reviewed in October 2026\. DeskSpruce has not independently installed or tested these weather integrations. A documented update is not a guarantee that an endpoint is available now.

## Choose the right starting point

| What you see | Start here |
| ---------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No widget, or no configuration in Manage | Use the [skin loading and visibility checklist](https://deskspruce.com/guides/rainmeter-skins-not-showing/). Do not change weather URLs yet. |
| Frame or city label appears, but conditions are blank | Identify the provider and inspect the weather measures and log. |
| Data appears for the wrong place or in the wrong units | Check the location format and units required by this exact package. |
| Yesterday's temperature remains on screen | Check observation time and update errors. WebParser can retain the last successfully parsed values after a later request fails. |
| Temperature works but an icon or forecast field is missing | Inspect that field's measure and image path. One missing component does not prove the entire service is down. |

## 1\. Identify the installed weather implementation

1. Select the loaded weather configuration in Rainmeter's Manage window. Record its source page and package version, if provided.
2. Open the creator's settings first. If necessary, use **Edit** to inspect the configuration and its included files without changing them.
3. Find the data-fetching measure: it may use `Measure=WebParser`, the older `Plugin=WebParser` spelling, or a script/plugin documented by the creator. Follow its `URL` and included variables to identify the provider.
4. Copy the whole skin folder, including `@Resources`, to a backup outside the active Skins folder before editing. See [file backups versus saved layouts](https://deskspruce.com/guides/customize-rainmeter-skins/).

The name of a suite is not enough to identify its weather code. For example, our [Mond resource page](https://deskspruce.com/skins/mond/) describes the original suite, while Xenium's [separate Mond Weather adaptation](https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?t=45632) documents Weather.com as its source. That maintainer thread was edited in May 2026 and gives its own settings instructions. Do not assume that an old Mond package and this adaptation use interchangeable files.

## 2\. Match location, endpoint and response format

A city name, postal code, provider-specific location code, web-page URL and latitude/longitude pair are different inputs. Use the type required by your package's instructions, not a code copied from another weather skin.

| Implementation you actually found | What must match |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| A skin parsing a provider's ordinary web page | The correct location page and the HTML structure expected by its RegExp. A page redesign can break parsing even when it opens normally in a browser. |
| A WeatherComJSON-based skin | The matching include-file generation and its documented variables. The [WeatherComJSON maintainer guide](https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?f=118&t=34628) documents latitude/longitude rather than old location codes and records changes to its API access. Follow the update for your implementation, not a universal Weather.com replacement. |
| A skin using OpenWeather's /data/2.5/weather endpoint | The [Current Weather API documentation](https://openweathermap.org/current) requires an appid key and supports coordinates. JSON is the default response; XML requires mode=xml. The skin's parser must expect the chosen format. |
| A different API or API version | That product's documented endpoint, permissions, location parameters and response fields. Changing a URL's version number is not a migration of the parser. |

Preserve coordinate order, minus signs and decimal points exactly as documented. Separate latitude and longitude variables are not the same as one combined field. For an OpenWeather Current Weather skin, `units=metric` and `units=imperial` differ from the default standard units, whose temperatures are Kelvin. Changing a displayed “°C” label alone does not convert the data.

## 3\. Separate connection failure from parser failure

Right-click Rainmeter's notification-area icon and choose **About**. In **Skins**, select the weather configuration and inspect its weather measure values locally. In **Log**, find entries for that configuration and measure. Variables and values can contain credentials: do not publish a full screenshot.

- **Connection error:** WebParser could not connect to the configured hostname or resource. Check the exact provider address and whether the creator reports an outage or retired endpoint. Do not disable the firewall or certificate validation as a blanket fix.
- **Regular-expression or “not enough substrings” errors:** compare the expected response with what was actually returned. A login page, error message or changed JSON/HTML structure can all fail the old pattern. Suppressing the error does not restore the data.
- **Valid parent data, wrong child value:** WebParser child measures use `StringIndex` to select captures from a parent. Mixing a new parent parser with old child indexes can display the wrong field.
- **Only an image fails:** inspect the icon measure, download error and local resource path before replacing the whole weather integration.

A successful browser visit is only a clue: WebParser cannot use a browser's cookie-based login session, and servers can return different content to different clients. For API authorization or quota errors, read the provider's actual response and the account's access requirements. Do not post a key or obtain somebody else's key from a forum.

## 4\. Apply one source-specific change safely

1. Choose an update explicitly intended for your skin or its documented weather framework. Preserve its companion includes, scripts and icons; do not combine unrelated snippets.
2. Change only the documented location, units or authorized account-key setting. Keep keys local. If a key was exposed in a screenshot, URL or support post, replace/revoke it through the provider's account controls.
3. Save and refresh the affected skin once. Allow its documented update interval before deciding it failed; repeated rapid requests can create additional access problems.
4. Compare the returned location and observation time, not just whether a number appears. If the edit breaks other fields, restore the backed-up files and refresh.

Rainmeter documents WebParser's request interval as `Update × UpdateDivider × UpdateRate`. Do not set a very low `UpdateRate` to compensate for a broken source. WebParser may keep old values after a failed update, so a visible temperature is not proof of a fresh response.

## Use debug dumps only when necessary

For an experienced user investigating a parser mismatch, the [WebParser reference](https://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/measures/webparser/) documents `Debug=2` on the fetching measure: it saves the downloaded content to `WebParserDump.txt` in the current skin folder unless `Debug2File` changes that path. Treat the dump as private; it may contain location information or account-related data. Do not upload the whole skin, full request URL or unreviewed dump.

After inspecting it locally, remove the temporary debug option or restore `Debug=0`, refresh the skin and delete the diagnostic dump. If requesting help, share only the provider hostname and endpoint path with credentials removed, the package version, the relevant measure name and a redacted error. Never share an API key even if somebody requests the complete configuration.

## When to stop patching

If the service is retired or the creator provides no matching update, unload that weather component while keeping the suite's other widgets. Browse the [skin catalog](https://deskspruce.com/skins/) or [Rainmeter suites](https://deskspruce.com/category/suites/) for alternatives, but check their current provider instructions before replacing it. A preview showing sunshine is not evidence of a working live feed.
