- Description: Recover an unclickable Rainmeter skin through Manage or Ctrl, distinguish click through from dragging locks, and check transparency and hover behavior.

To turn off Rainmeter click through when you cannot click a skin, open Rainmeter's notification-area icon, select the loaded configuration in **Manage → Skins** and clear **Click through**. You can also hold **Ctrl** while interacting with the skin to temporarily bypass click through. You do not need to reinstall the skin.

**Scope:** this is a documentation-based guide to mouse interaction. It does not establish that a particular skin's buttons or external commands work.

## Recover access without clicking the desktop widget

1. Left-click the Rainmeter notification-area icon to open Manage. Check the hidden-icons overflow if it is not immediately visible.
2. Use Active skins or expand the configuration tree to select the exact running `.ini` file.
3. Clear **Click through**. Manage applies active skin setting changes immediately.
4. If you also want to move the skin, enable **Draggable**. If it remains locked, check the global Disable dragging setting in Manage → Settings.

Holding Ctrl temporarily disables click through so you can interact with the skin's menu. Using Manage is preferable when a small or transparent widget is difficult to target. To avoid accidentally running a launcher or power button, do not test recovery by clicking an unfamiliar action.

## What click through actually changes

`ClickThrough=1` disables mouse-over detection and passes clicks through the skin to what is underneath. That means hover effects and mouse actions will not work normally, not merely that the skin cannot be dragged. It is useful for passive clocks and decorations that should not intercept desktop clicks.

The setting is per configuration in Rainmeter.ini. In Manage, ensure you selected the affected configuration, not another clock or a similarly named suite component. A suite's separate panels can have different click-through settings.

## Choose the right way to lock a widget

| Wanted behavior | Use | Effect on controls |
| --------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Keep buttons usable but prevent accidental movement | Draggable off | Mouse actions can still work |
| Make the widget ignore clicks and hover | Click through on | Normal mouse interaction is disabled |
| Change which windows cover the widget | Position | Changes stacking, not the action itself |
| Keep a widget within the display | Keep on screen | Constrains placement, not click handling |

If you only want a launcher to stop moving, disable Draggable rather than enabling click through. If another application covers the widget, see [Rainmeter Position and topmost settings](https://deskspruce.com/guides/rainmeter-always-on-top/); passing clicks through is not the same as placing a skin behind a window.

## If disabling click through does not restore the button

Check whether you can open the skin's right-click menu. If that works but one button does not, the remaining issue may be its mouse action, a missing target or the skin's own design. Click through is no longer the established explanation.

A fully transparent skin with `AlphaValue=0` cannot detect the mouse. The documented minimum for an invisible but mouse-sensitive skin is 1, although using a visible transparency level is clearer while troubleshooting. Transparent gaps in a meter are also different from defined clickable content: do not assume every point inside a visible panel is an active button.

If a skin fades away on hover, inspect **On hover** in Manage. Ctrl can temporarily disable that behavior too. Change one setting at a time and record the original values. For a window you cannot see at all, use the [loading and visibility checklist](https://deskspruce.com/guides/rainmeter-skins-not-showing/).

## Preserve the recovered behavior

After setting each affected component, save a new named layout if you want a restore point. A previously saved layout can contain the old click-through state and reinstate it when loaded. See [layout state versus skin-file backups](https://deskspruce.com/guides/customize-rainmeter-skins/).

If a skin's own actions keep changing its behavior, consult its documented settings rather than repeatedly editing global files. This procedure restores Rainmeter's mouse handling; it cannot guarantee a third-party launch command or music integration succeeds.
